Summer 2019: San Diego (Del Mar and Torrey Pines)

Our third place to stay was in Del Mar. Mainly, we used it as a base and took a couple of excursions to Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. Torrey Pines is a natural reserve on the hilly areas next to the Pacific Ocean. The cliffs and hills are weather eroded by weather, offering fascinating details. From higher elevations, the view over the ocean is, needless to say, spectacular.

In the hills and valleys, wildlife abound. I had good views of a Red-tailed Hawk and a California Scrub Jay.

We usually walked back along the beach, which gives us a different perspective than from the cliff top.

The beach is also a good place to see shore birds.

The town of Del Mar is a typically California Coast posh (and expensive) town, nothing much to write home about.

On the day that I left, I had the good fortune of seeing a beautiful sunset. At the end of it, just as the sun dipped below the horizon, I witnessed the "green flash" phenomenon, which I always wanted to see but it was the first time I actually saw it. And that concluded my trip to San Diego.
