Summer 2019: San Diego (Mission Bay, Old Town and Presidio areas)

(Click on each image to see the high-resolution version)

After a few days on the waterfront, we changed hotel to Mission Bay. This is close to Old Town, naturally, I took a few trips there.

San Diego Old Town

I had been to Old Town in San Diego before during our 2004 cross-country trip, and I am usually not into reenactment "historical" sites. But San Diego Old Town is certainly colorful. I remember having dinner at a restaurant in Fiesta de Reyes when we were here, and this time a band was playing too.

From Old Town, it is a longish walk to Presidio, the centerpiece of which is the iconic Serra Museum.

Presidio has a commanding view of the surrounding areas. From here, I could see the Immaculata Church across a valley.

After halfway between Presidio and Old Town are a section of magnificent Victorian style houses. Mostly built in the late 1800s and beautifully preserved, these historic homes really highlight the opulence of San Diego of its glory days.

On this walk, I also photographed a few birds.

Mission Bay itself is not that interesting (it is a shallow man-made bay and quite muddy). From there, I had a view of the St. Mary Magdalene Church on an elevated ground across the street.

The bay is a good place to see birds, especially water birds, though. The following are a few that I took.
