Road Trip Day 8: Redding to San Francisco and back home

All trips must end, and this was our last day on the road.

Starting from Redding, the most natural destination for this day was Lassen Volcanic National Park. We took a hike around Manzanita Lake. Knowing full well that this would be our last hike on this trip, we cherished every moment. The view is superb with the imposing Mt. Lassen reflected in the crystal clear glacier-fed lake.

As far as wildlife viewing, I did get a few new birds, such as this brilliantly colored Western Tanager and a Mountain Chickadee (and a few other new birds). And there were the usual suspects in the lake -- Mallards, Canada Geese, Americn Coot, even a Spotted Sandpiper.

And I spotted a lizard, judging by its blue belly, I think this is a Western fence lizard.

But all trips must come to an end. We made one last stop at Summit Lake in the park, then headed south and west toward San Francisco, where we boarded our flight to go home.
