Last stop: Madrid
After 2 weeks of wandering, we finally came to our last stop - Madrid. (Click on each image to see the high-resolution version) Spanish countryside from our final train rider from Cordoba to Madrid, we left Andalucia for good.
Plaza Mayor at the heart of Madrid.
Night scenes in the vibrant city.
The indoor marketplace, Mercado de San Miguel, displays a dazzling array of goodies, such as these pickled small fish.
And this large-mouthed fish (probably a grouper) was posing for pictures (for a fee).
Apparently not only is jamon (Spanish ham) a delicacy, cutting it requires much study too.
Unfortunately, Madrid is the least photographer-friendly city on our trip -- most places, such as the Royal Palace and museums, prohibit picture taking.
Almudena Cathedral, taken from the Royal Palace (we did not go in).
The statues of Fernando and Isabella, the king and queen who united Spain, at the Royal Palace.
Statue of the old master, Goya, outside Museo del Prado, note the sculpture rendition of The Naked Maja at the bottom. More of Goya's arts can be found on this website.
