Grand Canyon National Park and Monument Valley

At dusk on our first day we arrived in Grand Canyon National Park. Greeted us was a powerful storm at sunset over the great schism.

We stayed at Yavapai Lodege, and next morning I got up early to meet the rising sun at Yavapai Point.

Throughout the day, we drove along the South Rim and stopped at various points to marvel at the great geological wonder.

I did not forget to pay attention to the details at foot either.

Finally, on the third day, we worked our way toward the eastern entrance. We would make our last stop at Desert View Point, where there is the best panoramic view of the canyon and the Colorado River. A watchtower stands there, as if to guard this national treasure.

But eventually we had to leave. Outside the park, we made one more stop at a gorge, this would be a side canyon of the Grand Canyon, in any other place it would be an impressive feature, but here it remains more or less anonymous.

We then drove through Monument Valley in the Navajo Country. The valley fully deserves its name, with towering and uniquely shaped mesas and buttes. We stopped at several places to take pictures, but had to press forward to go to Moab.
