March, 2017 trip to Houston
In March, 2017 I made a very quick (family) trip to Houston, TX. My main excursion was to Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge. Unfortunately, this ended up in disappointment -- no Prairie Chicken sighting for me at all. The consolation was a Killdeer standing in the middle of the road, and a few remaining Texas Bluebonnets (the state flower of Texas) which were near the end of the blooming season. On another occasion, I stopped at Cullinan Park again -- I always thought this to be "Brazos Bend Lite": a park with a boardwalk and a lake/pond that hosts a remarkable assembly of wildlife, even giant alligators. The following pictures show a sample of them.
Killdeer
Texas Bluebonnet
Anhinga
American Coot
Common Gallinule
