Spring 2015 China and Japan Trip
In late April and early May, 2014, we made a trip to China. This was our first trip to China in 5 years, the last one being in 2009. It was also my first trip after getting serious about bird photography -- previously I had never photographed a bird in China which I could not photograph in North America (which is to say I had never photographed a uniquely "Chinese" bird). For this reason alone this trip promised a good "bounty", and it delivered: in all I photographed 21 species of new birds.
But this was not primarily a birding trip; spending time with friends and family was, and we had a fine time. We also managed to visit some places, most noteworthy are the ancient town of Fenghuang in western Hunan Province, the Terracotta Army in Xi'an and the Great Wall in Beijing.
