Canyonlands National Park

In one of his essays Edward Abbey said that when asked by a visitor what he'd do if he only had a few hours in a park, he said: "I'd weep" (he was referring to either himself or another ranger; I can't find the exact quote now). Well, I did not shed any tears but we only had a few hours at Canyonlands National Park which was certainly regrettable, as there was so much to see and do there.

The land is colorful, the canyons deeply carved, and the ubiquitous La Sal Mountains seem to loom in the distance everywhere you turn.

We did manage to take a short hike to Mesa Arch.

From there, we could see the famous Washerwoman Arch in the distance. There are many fanciful names given to the arches, but this one really looks like a woman washing clothes.
